Heritage Farm Vineyard – Jacqueline and John Wrinch

Heritage Farm Vineyard has eight types of grape vines:  Ortega, Maréchal Foch, Leon Millot, Regent, Pinot Noir, Muller Thurgau, Bacchus and Schoenberg.

On most days of the year, John can be found tending his vineyard or, as our winemaker, preparing for our new release. For many years, John, a native of Vancouver, has been active in experimenting with a variety of vines and grape growing techniques for our climate, and in developing wines that reflect the unique character of our region.

The Starling Lane winery is located on this scenic farm just 20 minutes from downtown Victoria. Jacqueline, with her strong Quebec roots, injects her character and charm in managing the winery tasting room and special agritourism events on the property.

The historical background of this piece of land dates back to the days of the “Hanging” Judge Begbie who acquired this parcel of land in 1859.  Governor James Douglas, representing the British Crown, signed the documents for the transfer of title from the Crown to Judge Begbie.  Today, the property once again holds the 19th century ambience.

The most notable landmark is an eccentric old four-storey water tower that pokes its imposing head out of the greenery and presides over the farm like a sentinel.

The original old barn in the courtyard now serves as a center for the sale of farm products.
